Wed. July 19th at Messiah Lutheran Church
A Hog Roast & Concert Vespers Benefit, Freed from Debt for Vocation, will take place on on Wednesday, July 19, held at Messiah Lutheran Church in Mountain Iron, from 5:00 – 7:30p.m. This event is sponsored by the churches of our Laurentian Conference of the Northeastern Minnesota Synod ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America). It will bring people from many congregations and communities together for a memorable mid-summer evening of sharing food, live music, and worship.
The goal of the benefit is to support one of the projects of our synod’s Renewing the Promise appeal, which is to offset the tremendous debt that many of our first call clergy accrue while pursuing ordained ministry within the ELCA. This debt can limit the effectiveness and availability of many first call clergy, particularly in underserved areas of the church. by supporting this cause we assist our clergy to be Freed from Debt for Vocation, many who are faithfully serving in our Laurentian Conference and other places in the Northeastern Minnesota Synod, as well as future pastors yet to come.
From 5 to 6:15 p.m. a delicious Hog Roast – with complementing sides – will be served (a suggested donation of $15 is asked). Local church bands will be providing music for our entertainment.
From 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. a Concert Vesper Worship Service will be held, featuring a mass choir and special music(offering from the Worship Service designated towards “Seminarian Debt Relief.”)
A “Laurentian Conference Choir” will be singing the anthem “God Has Work For Us To Do” by Mark Miller as a part of the Vesper Service. If you would like to participate in the choir please come early for a rehearsal beginning at4:30 p.m. Patti Stoddard, from Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hibbing, will be directing the choir, Patti can be reached at (218) 929-3214 (call or text) email: firstname.lastname@example.org. We are also seeking musicians from various congregations who would offer special music. For special music, contact Pastor Kristin Foster, email@example.com, (741-7057). Volunteers are also needed to assist with the meal. More information about who to contact will be available very soon.
