Confirmation Program 2018-19
Dear Parents of 6th-9th Graders, The Holy Spirit is alive and moving on the Iron Range. In the last year, our area Lutheran congregations have been saying many goodbyes to beloved leaders. Transitions are rough on congregations, but they can also be opportunities. As our congregations discern what the Spirit is calling of our churches, it has been proposed creating a collaborative confirmation program. This Summer our youth walked together and deepened their faith on the synod journey to Houston. In this spirit, we are working to create a program together with Messiah, Gethsemane, and Our Saviors. At this time, we are still working out details between congregations. We want this to be an engaging program where our students grow in faith and Christian Community to love and serve others. We ask for your prayers and patience as we continue to work out the logistics. Confirmation is coming and it’s going to be awesome this year. “WELCA” Women of the ELCA – We are a group of ladies that love to share our interests and ideas about life with each other, and share the love of Christ with the outside world around us. Our circle groups are involved with many service projects, such as, creating newborn kits, school backpack kits, camperships for youth at Camp Vermilion, quilting, prayer shawls, hospital care kits, etc. If you attend the church, you are considered a member, and can join in the meetings and devotion times whenever you are able, and take part in whatever projects you feel called to do. We invite you to join us and share your ideas!
If you need a few resources to get you through the week, click on these links here for devotionals and information to lift your spirits!
Women at Our Savior’s are active in the Women of the ELCA (WELCA) at local, regional and national levels, participating in ministries that benefit children, families, communities and other women.
Worldwide relief support
Our quilters meet weekly (during the fall, winter, and spring months) in the Our Savior’s fellowship hall to sew quilts shipped worldwide for relief efforts at natural disaster sites and other emergency situations. We easily ship more than 300 quilts a year! Everyone is welcome, no sewing experience is necessary.
Infants and children
WELCA women at Our Savior’s also gather and pack emergency kits used in ELCA mission work worldwide. These include layette kits and nursery kits for mothers of newborns and infants, school kits for the work of Lutheran World Relief, and collecting and distributing school supplies for local children.
Ministering to one another
All women at Our Savior’s are invited to participate in Circles. These small groups of women gather monthly for Bible study and fellowship at church or in people’s homes. Meeting days and times vary to fit everyone’s schedule, check the calendar for one that fits yours.
The annual WELCA Birthday Party celebrates your special day, no matter what date your birthday is. Homemade cakes, fun and games, and a hilarious skit are just some of the evening’s festivities. Consider this your invitation!
Four generations of women came to church together in early November. Chris Culbert, her mother, daughters and granddaughters joined in worship. Chris and her daughters are long-time OSLC members; all are passing along their Lutheran traditions to their daughters. We welcome their family, and all families!
