Blessing of the Trees

On Sunday, May 20th, we gave thanks for our home on this Earth with the Blessing of the Trees. Our Savior’s children helped in planting some trees near the church.

When we plant and nourish trees, all God’s creation sings for joy.

Graduate Sunday – May 13

The four high school graduates who are members of OSLC — all young women — were recognized during worship on Graduate Sunday, May 13. The ladies received a gift from the congregation, and here honored during coffee an’ afterwards. Congratulations to Claire Schumacher, recipient of the 2012 Our Savior’s scholarship.

First Communion Class

First Communion Class for elementary school age children will be held on Sunday, May 13th at 9am. Pastor Bob leads the class. Parents are welcome. The children’s 1st Communion will be during the service on May 20th.

Pastor Bob Simensen receives award

Pastor Bob Simensen (center) is recognized for his 35 years of ordained ministry at the 2012 NE MN Synod Assembly.

Pastor Bob was recognized for his decades of work as a pastor during the 2012 Synod Assembly. He joins a handful of other pastors in northeastern Minnesota who have served congregations for 35 years. Pastor Bob has been at Our Savior’s since December 2002, and served congregations in Arizona and Wisconsin before that.

Last day of Sunday School April 29

Sunday school wraps up for this spring on Sunday, April 29. Class runs from 9:00 – 9:45 am in the west wing of the church — just follow the sound of kids singing! The Sunday School staff wishes all students a safe, fun-filled summer. Watch for more information about summer Bible School, and we’ll see you at Sunday School again in the fall.

Synod Assembly this weekend

The 2012 Synod Assembly gathers in Grand Rapids April 27-29. This “annual meeting” brings together the more than 140 ELCA churches from Pine City to Grand Portage, and Ball Club to Duluth. Pastor Bob, AiM Brenda and representatives of our congregation will participate in business sessions, worship services and community projects in the Grand Rapids area. Watch for notices in coming weeks for assembly recap presentations.

April 18 – 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Grades 6-9 at Gethsemane. Special guest – Bishop Tom Aitken

April 25 – 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Drama Night!! Grades 6-8 at Gethsemane. (NO class for 9th graders)

May 2 – 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Year-end party! All grades meet at Gethsemane.
